Traverse City Dance Project Returns to Crosshatch Meadow

Dancers from Traverse City Dance Project perform at the Crosshatch Meadow, with sun-kissed forest landscape in the background.

On August 3rd, the Traverse City Dance Project will perform works of contemporary dance at the Crosshatch Meadow, just north of Glacial Hills Pathway and Natural Area in Bellaire.

The performance will feature four works, including new creations by directors Jen Lott and Brent Whitney, and a staging of Something I Had in Mind, an award winning balletic comedy by Italian-born choreographer Mauro di Candia. The evening will also feature dance set to live music—a collaboration between choreographer Kara Wilkes and celebrated Kalamazoo-based cellist and vocalist Jordan Hamilton, both winners of TCDP’s NEWVO Links fellowship.

The program features eight professional dancers from national and international companies, and includes Traverse City natives Sarah Wolff and Gabriella Dorman.

Guests should bring a chair or blanket to this outdoor performance, which takes place on Wednesday, August 3rd from 7 to 8:30 pm. Gates will open at 6 pm for folks who would like to bring a picnic dinner. In case of inclement weather, August 5th serves as a rain date.

“Last year was our first partnership with Traverse City Dance Project, and we are so delighted to bring them back,” says Crosshatch co-director Brad Kik. “It’s not often we have the chance to feature professional dancers in a rural setting.”

The Bellaire performance is part of the Traverse City Dance Project’s Tenth Anniversary Season. In July and August, the company will embark on a 5-stop community tour, visiting Frankfort, Kalkaska, Maple City, and the Cathedral Barn in Historic Barns Park in Traverse City, before wrapping up the season at the Crosshatch Meadow in Bellaire.

Tickets are available on a sliding scale, from $0 to $20. For more information and to order tickets, visit www.tcdanceproject.org/events
