Poet Moheb Soliman comes to Leelanau County with his debut book HOMES—part contemporary nature poetry, part immigrant travelogue, exploring themes of nature, modernity, identity, belonging, and sublimity through the Great Lakes region. Before a reading from the book, join a stellar, diverse group of local guests for a public discussion about their intersecting perspectives and backgrounds with regard to water and environment issues, relationships to place, and the Great Lakes region as a whole as well as this very singular corner of it.
The panel includes:
Holly T. Bird (San Felipe Pueblo/Apache/Yaqui/Perepucha/European), co-director of Title Track, who has a long history of community activism in both environmental and Indigenous issues.
Cindi John, co-owner of Treaty Fish Company in Peshawbetown. Ed and Cindi John have operated this Tribal, family-owned and operated commercial fishery since 1989.
Diane Dupuis, development director at FLOW (For Love of Water). As the Great Lakes Basin’s only public trust policy and education center, FLOW works with communities, decision-makers, and tribal partners to keep the common waters of the entire Great Lakes watershed public and protected.
Ari L. Mokdad, award winning poet and performance artist, and captain’s wife of Nauti-Cat Cruises
Brad Kik, co-director of Crosshatch Center for Art and Ecology, whose work focuses on the intersections of art, ecology, agriculture and local economy.
and of course Moheb Solimon.
