Twilight Tour: Cook Family Farm

  • Cook Family Farm 4282 Hayes Tower Road Gaylord, MI, 49735 United States (map)

Chicken Production and Cooperative Systems

Get a snapshot of a farm other than your own and get a close up view of Cook Family Farm, a first generation farm in Otsego County specializing in grass fed animals and GMO FREE grain. The Cooks used the Chicken Coupe, now owned by Crosshatch, from 1999 to 2010 before building their butchering facility. Their chickens are 100% pasture-raised, so they are only available seasonally. 60 head of cattle are sold per year and close to 80 pigs are raised year-round. Plus, 600-800 turkeys are in the mix. Recently, Cook Family Farm joined forces with another farm and now offers meat shares through Providence Farm's CSA program.

Twilight Tours are an opportunity for area small farmers to learn from one another’s practices through a series of tours and farmer-led workshops. Farm tours are particularly valuable for beginning farmers as a way to build relationships, observe a wide variety of management styles and find support from a peer network. Upcoming Twilight Tours will have a unique theme, depending upon the farm. Following the tour will be plenty of time for Q&A.
